Feb. 3, 2006 Democrats and Republicans fight the good fight capturing the public’s attention while the bipartisan pansy bureaucracy slips their evil scams past us on a daily basis. Much of what passes as coming from the president and congress are things the bureaucrats pass off as mandates with no legal authority what so ever. The departments of health education and welfare, the environmental protection agency, and OSHA are among the biggest offenders when it comes to obliterating the rights of the public. Rather than these mandates being authorized by constitutional law the congress prefers they go to the Supreme Court to be settled. The constitution has become little more than a museum decoration. The authorities it gives to the federal government has long ago been circumvented in favor of political power from the electorate too the elected. Some Congressmen such as [RINO] John McCain make fluttering efforts to reform some of the excess of congress. What they do is open the floodgates for more abuses as they did in campaign finance reform. Congress has never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity to reform their abuses. Rather than pass laws restricting their activities they pass laws restricting what the public can do. I have a message for congress, it isn’t the public misbehaving it’s you in congress. Tom Delay is out John Boehner is in as leader of the House of Representatives. Will this mean sweeping reforms? Not likely what it will mean is the heat will be taken off the House for a while giving Republicans breathing space to let the dust from Tom Delay settle. Denny Hastert is committed to reforming the House. The question now is how far will they go with reform? Will the Senate follow suite, Congress can’t blame the public as they did with campaign finance reform. This culture of corruption is on them, both political parties. He who swims with the fish’s will stink like a fish. To understand the workings of the bureaucracy first one must understand who comprises the bureaucracy. They are those people who work for the government in perpetuity. We call them civil servants for lack of a better description. There’s a process they go through before joining the government on a permanent bases. This process is to assure they’re void of political influence, [and Geese don’t fly.] Patronage and influence is very much a part of obtaining employment with the government. It’s a natural as breathing that these bureaucrats would be beholding to their mentors in management of congressional positions. All the laws on the books won’t change the system if the system’s flawed. This isn’t to imply these people aren’t doing their jobs it simply means their jobs are fashioned around, [CYA] covering their asses and those of congress and midlevel management in the government. The public’s interests come second, third, and even fourth most of the time. Every president I can remember since Eisenhower has promised to reduce the size of the bureaucracy in Washington. The bureaucracy has been increased by every administration. Bill Clinton is the only president who actually reduced the size of government. He fired our most essential people the US Military. Leaving Citizen Soldiers the National Guard with the job of protecting the country and fighting brush_wars every president engages in. All this sounds cynical I know. Our government is coming to the point where it can no longer sustain the blotting that it goes through when every new administration comes to town. The employment rosters and entitlements are taking far too many of our tax dollars. There comes a point when even congress must recognize just enough is too much, when one more straw will break the camels back. The salutation can only be found in term limits on congress. Let them serve 12 years maximum in both or either of the houses of congress. 12 years and it’s back home. There should be a law a congress person can’t finance real estate within 50 miles of the Capital building. After 12 years they’d tire of paying rent and go home. Congress must be compelled to operate by some rules of conduct that resembles those the public is required to observe. After all they’re only citizens as we all are. They aren’t entitled to special privileges the rest of us are denied. Vote the bastards out, bring in a new crew let’s prove we can do better. Let’s change some of the rules while we’re at it requiring accountability from our teachers. Tenure shouldn’t guarantee lifetime employment for incompetence. If our young people are properly taught they’ll learn but it must be made interesting. Learning 21st century technology requires 21st century tools. Let’s use our brain when we go to the booth to vote. Who’ll do the better job not who deserves to win because of party loyalty. Think America first party loyalty second. Only then will we have a better government. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes joined the Republican Party at the age of three.
