A Real Humbug - The Alleged War On Christmas -

By Bonijean Isaacs
Dec. 19, 2006

The War on Christmas is a Humbug. The Radical Religious right will lead folks to believe that "Christmas, Bah Humbug" is the motto of Liberals and Secularists who simply don’t want Christians to have a good time. This is nonsense. The word humbug actually means "something intended to deceive, a fraud; an impostor; nonsense, rubbish; pretense, deception." The is an accurate description of the manufactured War on Christmas.

Hear radical Religious Right Foot Soldiers join Chicken Little as they all go "Bawk! Bawk! The Sky is Falling and Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer is going to land on top of everyone." The Liberals are the Grinches who want to steal Christmas.

Last holiday season religious groups boycotted retailers for excluding for the word "Christmas" in their advertisements and instructing the clerks to say "Happy Holidays" to the customers.. The Retailers learned their lesson from last year. They announced. "We're not afraid to use the term 'Merry Christmas.' We'll use it early, and we'll use it often."

The radical religious right thumbed their noses at the liberals and secularists as they line up to spend top dollars on Black Friday now that the Retail Honchos have announced that they are putting Christmas back into the holidays. Does the term Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas slam the Christians?

Did the Liberals really plot to steal Christmas? Perhaps the Retailers were attempting to make the holidays more generic in order to attract liberal and secular dollars Happy Holidays is a way to greet folks regardless of what holiday they celebrate during the Winter Season. It is a term that includes people with other spiritual beliefs.

Christians insist on Merry Christmas are not interested in accepting and open-minded attitudes toward others. The attempt is to exclude Good Cheer to anyone who doesn’t agree with their line of thinking. So what else is new?

It certainly makes sense for the retailers to cater and entice Christians to spend more money on what is essentially a Christian Holiday. The Average Liberal doesn’t care one way or the other. A secularist is not going to buy Christmas presents anyway.

The two major religions in the United States are well served this holiday season. Christianity and Money. Money is good, especially that extra Holiday Pay for working on Christmas. Bah! Humbug for the War on Christmas!
