Dec. 17, 2006 “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.” Psalm 119:142 People are always asking for the “truth”. There are many “truths” or truisms that men have sought or even now seek. Men want to know the meaning of life. Men want to know how they were created or how other things came to be. The answers are as old as the written word itself. Men look into the face of truth every day and determine to remain ignorant of the most basic of truisms that there is a God in the heavens and he is personally involved with his creation. It is true also that in the Psalm quotation cited above the Psalmist is talking of God’s written Law, the Law of Moses. God enforced the Law of Moses throughout the early history of Israel as a means of instruction into the greater truth that Messiah would come and redeem the race of man at some future time. As Israel was faced with the truth of God’s law every day, so men today are faced with the truth that the Messiah did come and he did fulfill the law as he had promised. He had made the path to heaven a path available to every believer. There was another fact that was a part of the truism. That fact was that there would be many who would not believe. They would scoff and believe lies and be deceived into thinking all manner of strange thoughts. Heaven could be gained by slaying children. Heaven could be gained by repetitious prayers or by giving money to churches and clergy. Heaven could be gained by paying for tickets (indulgences) or by signing up to fight in crusades. Heaven could be gained by declaring war “holy”. There is nothing “holy” about war. Men have always known of the existence of God. Even Albert Einstein, who is esteemed as some great atheist was no such thing. He agreed that his studies were to help him understand better the God of the universe. Isaac Newton and other men of science saw their theories and proofs as stepping stones toward God; never away from him. Every day, as some men seek ways to destroy faith with their science; proofs are discovered that only confirm what all men know in their heart of hearts; God exists. The silliness behind the efforts of atheists to expunge the world of religion is nothing more than an act of spiritual blindness. The pseudo-science of evolutional theory they use as their own religion is no less cultic than the myriad religions created by human thought that point to birds, beast and creeping things as gods to be held in esteem. The book known as The Hebrew/Christian bible is a book of history that has never been disproved. Men have tried in many eras and in many different ways to discredit the words of the Apostles and Prophets, but the histories of early civilizations have fortified the words of scripture through the coming of the world’s Messiah and the fulfillment of God’s righteous law. Men will claim otherwise, but none of their explanations can explain why other men have gone to their deaths willingly, believing what they had witnessed with their eyes and touched with their hands. There is no need to be sad for those who have died in faith. Those to feel sadness for are those who trust in the creeping things to explain life, righteousness and salvation. Those to feel sadness for are the ones who believe only the lie. This Christmas season do not fear those who scoff and call for an end of religious worship. They are a tyranny that gains power from fear and ignorance. They are fearful of truth; having made up their own brand of truth that they attempt to foist upon the fearful. Jesus is better than that. Jesus only spoke the words of his Father. He declared the truth of God each day of his ministry. He threatened no soul and was gentle with each. He called no name that was inappropriate. It was very true that the scribes and the Pharisees were ‘hypocrites”. It was true that the money changers were “thieves”. Spiritual truth and wisdom identifies the true God of the universe. He is not discovered under rocks or in caves. He is not a tree or a fish or a star or a moon. God identified himself to Moses as the “I AM” which leaves nothing and no one of creation apart from his being.
