Dec. 13, 2006 The 27% approval rating that I said in an earlier article an AP-Ipsos poll showed Bush as enjoying is now history, if a more recent CBS poll is accurate. The CBS poll has only 21% approving of Bush’s conduct of the war and a bare, skimpy 4% believing Bush should stay the course. The poll provides no figures on what percentage of the interviewees could say what the ‘course’ was. My own guess is that the ‘course’ is a bloody, reckless, haphazard, helter-skelter sequence of makeshifts and stopgaps intended to make it look as if there had been a purpose for the war in the first place. As for the other topics, some of the logic employed by the proponents of the US pro-Israel onslaught on Islam and Arabs absolutely astounds me. Here are a few ideas I keep encountering: Palestinians make incessant attacks on Israel, not because Jews stole their homeland, with the help and blessings of the US, but because Arabs are wild, crazy, irresponsible barbarians who would be making such attacks even if Jews had not stolen their land. So as long as Palestinians are going to be on a mad career of violence anyway, it is just as well that Jews squatted in Palestine in the first place. Similarly, the violence in Iraq is the sole work of Islamic terrorists and religious fanatics, and would have erupted eventually in any case. The US invasion had nothing to do with precipitating the violence. The US occupied Iraq only to try to prevent the violence that they knew would be forthcoming whether or not they invaded. This is like my saying, when I had punched someone and he had punched back, “Look at what an aggressive little churl he is! He would have punched me anyway, even if I hadn’t punched him first, so it’s just as well that I did punch him. He was going to have it coming anyway!” Another urban myth has it that the 19 hijackers mounted the attack on the Twin Towers for no reason whatsoever, beyond their own lunacy and mania. This was not a reprisal for US-Israeli aggression in the Middle East, because we have never acknowledged US-Israeli aggression, and Arabs should be polite enough to respect our unwillingness to acknowledge US-Israeli aggression against them. After all the Jewish takeover of Palestine was done in accordance with the UN Partition of 1947 that was ratified by countries pressured by the US. Another irony is that when Israelis, having shelled a family of 9 on the beach in Gaza, conducted a self-investigation and won a self-acquittal, Palestinians should have humored Israeli pretenses that the killing was a mistake by overlooking the incident. Therefore, any subsequent action cannot be taken as a justifiable act of vengeance, for there was nothing to avenge. It’s just that the Palestinians are an uncooperative bunch of crazy savages who will attack whether or not they are attacked first. Another of the incredible ironies is that the US is gearing up for sanctions or war against Iran without any evidence whatsoever that Iran has nuclear weapons or is otherwise in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Israel has a well-developed nuclear arsenal, but American politicans are too craven even to mention the existence of this arsenal, except for the recent oopsy acknowledgment by Robert Gates. And of course Israel is not a signatory of the NPT, so they can proliferate all they want! The US cannot pressure Israel to join the NPT without full acknowledgment that Israel has nuclear weapons, but Israel won’t let the US make this acknowledgment. To figure out how the Zionists run things, listen to a 200-year-old quotation from Mayer Amschel Rothschild, who founded the famous banking dynasty, “Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes the laws”. If you change the word “money” to “media”, you have, “Give us control of a nation's media and we care not who makes the laws".
