Dec. 4, 2006 And what would any liberal rag be without continuous coverage of the world’s most beloved communist? We loved Stalin, Lenin, Marx, Mao and we love Kim Jong Il and Chairman Jintao of Communist China. We even love old what’s-his-name from Vermont (Bernie Sanders), the only socialist/communist voted to the left side of Congress. But American leftists and the world organization of Commie-pinko sympathizers and every available atheist will agree nobody is as lovable as that Cuban Communist curmudgeon, Fidel Castro! So it is a sad day that we have been told old Fidel has the dreaded ‘worm” cancer. Prior to his recent forgoing of a birthday celebration which was postponed from August 13th, the whole world was agog in speculation. What’s wrong with Fidel? Will he live? Will he die? Will he make any drastic wardrobe changes? But one opinionated fellow; Paolo Spadono wrote in August: “Castro might be testing Cuba , not leaving it”, calling it a “shocking announcement that he temporarily handed over power to his brother Raul”, as if it was impossible the old commie was capable of dying. Fidel was sick. Fidel needed an operation. It is not unprecedented to ensure you get your chair back upon surviving and operation. Raul wasn’t going to steal from his brother and brother Fidel wasn’t going to trust his chair to just anyone. The AP reported on August 4th: “Rumors swirl as Raul Castro keeps quiet” by Anita Snow as she reported: “Raul Castro has spent his entire life in the shadow of his older brother Fidel. As Cuba ’s acting President he continues to be on the sidelines…the focus remained entirely on Fidel Castro.” What else? Until Fidel is pushing up the sugar cane Raul wasn’t in charge! He was just keeping a seat warm. Should Fidel recover and find Raul contemplating a treaty with the United States or something; Raul’s worth could be measured in the worth of the weight of the sandbags it would take to hold his dead carcass at the bottom of Havana ’s bay. But in that column we found that “North Korean leader Kim Jong Il sent a message to Castro wishing him a speedy recovery.” How nice! Anita Snow weighed in again three days later (August 7th) with: “Elian Gonzalez wishes “grandpa Fidel” well”. The now 12-year-old Elian has apparently gotten over his trauma of being forcibly yanked from the arms of his loving relatives in Florida and whisked back into Communist Cuba by the loving and gracious FBI led by Janet Reno under the orders of that rascally but cowardly William Jefferson Clinton. This same article talked of a visit by the just recently re-elected, former Communist dictator of Nicaragua , Daniel Ortega. On August 8th I saw another AP submission by Anita Snow: “Cuban officials optimistic for Castro recovery”, where she reported: “Fidel Castro has been recovering quickly from intestinal surgery and could be back at work within weeks…” And she reported: “Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Castro was out of bed and talking following his surgery.” This news brought smiles on the faces of at least Kim Jong Il, Daniel Ortega and Hugo Chavez while Mahmoud Ahmadinejad remained skeptical but hopeful. You see, Ahmadinejad is torn because Communists are infidels too. Then on August 13th Anita Snow reported: “Castro is walking and talking, says Communist paper”. Apparently Chavez’s word wasn’t good enough (being a serial liar) but much of what was in the article was simply a rehash of the August 8th report by a media outlet that has a little more “street-cred” than Chavez. Yet, reality being what it is Anita Snow issued this report: “Video of Castro prompts Cubans to imagine future without him” speaking of a “weakened” Castro and a “fragile” Castro. But Communist cheerleader Hugo Chavez is quoted: “I returned [from my visit to Cuba ] more at ease. The truth is we were very worried about Fidel, who is so valuable to us and to all countries fighting for their dignity, for justice.” In case you are wondering; that is Communist justice.
