![]() By Judy Ramsook Dec. 3, 2006 Sometimes it does not take much for an individual to observe that in spite of all the technological and women’s rights advancements and given that we are also in the early part of the twenty first century, there are some things that are here to remind us that the world is still pretty much a man’s domain. One of those things is this year’s columnist of the year contest. It is held annually at this UK site. Has anyone else besides me noticed that there are no women writers on the who one should vote for list? Don’t get me wrong though. Those men who have made the list deserve to be there. For they have all been frequent contributors to the UK site. And as Robert Paul Reyes put it, it is those frequent contributors who deserve to be in the running for such an award. But there have also been women who contribute articles to this site on a frequent basis. Women writers such as Bonnie Jean Issacs. Michelle Malsbury, Meri Ulrich and Amanda Baker just to name a few. Did the voters forget about them? Or did some other power at work decide that this year’s contest should be a battle royale amongst the males whose names appear on the voting list? Some of you might want to chastise me for not meeting the five hundred word count quota in this piece (maybe Mr. Dayton in particular) but I have said what I intended to say. And, er, may the best man win, in the true sense of the phrase. ------------ About the author: Born and raised in the former British colony of Trinidad & Tobago, Judy Ramsook came to the US in the mid eighties where she attended San Antonio College and the University Of Texas At San Antonio.
