Dec. 1, 2006 One of the clear messages of the most recent election is that people no longer want to fight the war in Iraq, and if the going gets tough in Afghanistan I'm sure they're all for cutting and running their too. Rather than fight an insidious, violent, force for as long as it takes, we whine that this war takes longer than World War Two. Rather than show we'll bear any burden, pay any price, we're saying we won't put down the remote control and fight for our own way of life. This is not the fault of our soldiers, who have performed brilliantly and are the best in the world, it is the fault of the society they are fighting for. This is a trend all over the western world, and to be honest most of the damage is of our own doing. Foolishly, we have embraced the idea of multiculturalism. This is an idea that should have been buried a long time ago. Instead of being proud of our civilization, we hold all others as being superior to our own. We believe that since we aren't perfect everyone else must be. Or any country that was once abused by the west has a get out of jail free card to act anyway they wish, to be a failed state, or to abuse their own people. We even have this attitude towards dark age theocrats, believing that a bunch of inbred Muslims who pine for an 8th century caliphate are somehow to a civilization that invented Democracy, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, Capitalism, Scientific inquiry, the modern university, not to mention most of the main technological and medical breakthroughs of the last few centuries. Instead of boldly declaring we're right and their wrong we wring our hands about past sins. Let's face it, western civilization has gotten old and tired as it seems were willing to do anything for a little peace and quite. Arrest them if they do something over here but otherwise we don't want to hear about it. We'll support the mullahs, or other dictatorships in the region, anything for a little stability. Most of our own people aren't willing to fight because they don't believe our culture is worth fighting for, because they have been taught that it deserves to die. Moral subjectivism has taken over. Right is wrong and wrong is right. Our values don't get defended because we don't see them as values, but chains. Chains that need to be broken out of. We want leisure and comfort, which are fine by themselves, but when they become an end to themselves they become dangerous. When we want ease and entertainment above all else the ideals that made western civilization great are clearly under attack and failing. Europe is addicted to the welfare state, to the point where they are not reproducing enough to keep their population constant. Many have such low birth rates, like Spain or Estonia, that they won't be able to pull themselves out of the downward spiral. In many countries Muslim immigrants are on the path to becoming the majority simply because of high birthrates. Eurabia here we come. The U.S. probably isn't too far behind. It's simple numbers, any culture that doesn't reproduce enough simply won't survive. And western civilization is on track to become the first civilization to die from internal means. No barbarians will have to storm the gates, the barbarians will find we don't have anyone young enough to guard them. The vote to cut and run(and that's what it was no matter what the spinmasters say) is just a symptom of a much more serious disease. It's the terminal illness that will kill the west. We've lost the war of civilizations, because we're willing to let our civiliation die, not because our enemies are stronger. We've killed far more of them then they have killed of us. For all intents and purposes Western society has lost the will to go on and committed suicide. The only question that remains to be answered is which civilization will take over? The Islamist civilization or will the idea of western civilization survive somewhere else? For all of our sakes it better be the latter, but I'm not betting on it. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
