What Is Behind The Anti Wal-Mart Crusade?

By Craig Chamberlain
Aug. 30, 2006

Anyone remotely familiar with the democratic party shouldn't be surprised by their new target. Wal- Mart is the most successful business in the world, and the democrats can't stand success. A party of losers can't stand success. It's always something. If it's not Wal-Mart it would be something else. Ford, or Dell, or McDonalds.

It's not about Wal-Mart but about how they think eceonomics works. It's about capitalism vs. statism. The democratics embraced statism about a century ago when the progressives slithered their way into a major political party. Economic success, so says the statist, should not come independently of government control or government ownership.

So how dare Wal-Mart achieve economic success without following all of the typical pc trash? I mean they pay their workers nothing, chain them to their stations, and sell inferior goods. Or so they would have us believe. Their hatred of free economics(the only economic system to ever work) has them leading a dimwitted populist crusade. After all they can't come out and say they want socialism, so they have to lash Wal-Mart for sins against workers and poor people.

My hometown, like virtually every town in the U.S. has a Wal-Mart. They have a simple business plan. They sell stuff and they sell it cheaper than the other stores. Their lower prices save the American consumer hundreds of billions of dollars. What about the slave wages? Wal-Mart pays more than most places. I believe the average is around ten dollars an hour. Well the left wing politicians wail that is not enough to live on. That's probably true. But their workers are usually young people in school, and living with their parents. Or they are senior citizens who get social security. So most Wal-Mart workers aren't raising families.

Now before I get flooded with emails about the Wal-Mart workers with four kids and no health insurance, I don't doubt that they exist. I just don't believe that they are in the majority. And no I am not on Wal-Marts payroll. Wal-Mart is an American success story, and does a great service to consumers who aren't rich enough to shop at Sach's or some other outrageously expensive store, unlike most of the democrat senators who are leading the crusade. Not only is it hypocritical of the democrats to claim that they are for working people and then try to make it harder for them to shop within budget, it would also be bad for the economy.

So not only do they need to leave Wal-Mart alone, the closet socialists need to keep their sticky fingers off the economy. Period.
