Aug. 29, 2006 Have you heard a song called ‘Strangers in Paradise’? A destined couple no matter how life twists and turns they will find each other in the end. One of my favorite movies, “An Affair to Remember” stars Cary Grant and Debra Kerr beautifully captures the spirit of the song. Cary is engaged to a billionaire and Debra to a wealthy businessman. They meet on a cruise ship. When the ship reaches the destination, they fall in love. A reunion should take a place on the top level of the Empire State Building. On the way to meet him, she gets into a car accident and loses the ability to walk. He searches all over for her fruitlessly; in the end he learns about her misfortune and finally they reunite after a harsh separation. It is a beautiful love story with a bittersweet ending. Some people might think tales like this only exist in movies. Well, let me tell you a true story. A young woman is preparing for her upcoming wedding. She discovers that her fiancé is involved with someone else. Sad and greatly disappointed, she leaves him. She works at a store specializing in making wedding gowns. One day, a young man who ordered a dress for his fiancée weeks before walks in. He tells her that the wedding is off. His fiancée falls in love with another man. The two start talking. They find out they have similar interests and experiences. They even share the same relatives. It turns out that they are distant cousins and have been living in the same city for over ten years and not knowing each other’s existence. They fall in love and get married 6 months later, all thanks to their previous broken engagements. The couple is the parents of one of my friends. Fate works mysterious ways. It seeks you out when you are least expected. Sometimes, true love happens in a split second, unexplainable, yet undeniably strong. You can’t predict where or when it will happen, but when it does you know it instantly, like love at the first sight, magical, yet possible. Good deeds come to those who have patience. Things happen for a reason, you may not see it at first, but when you look back some point in life and review the steps that you have taken, you will then understand their purpose. People learn as they live. Somewhere out there, a soul mate is waiting for you. If fate allows, you two shall meet in time. Have a faith!
