Aug. 28, 2006 Who says that nature is not a perfect design? Was it designed for man or for god, and what was his purpose in designing the universe: to please man? I myself think that the ancients had it right in their belief in pantheism. There are several gods sometimes working at cross purposes. Ancient religion begets ancient culture which is a lot more relevant to the needs of man than modern culture derived from Christianity. Christianity must be one of the most bizarre religions know to man. Who would worship a god that lets himself be nailed to a cross. The Romans didn't, neither would they have turned the other cheek. No bleating and wailing over the fate of those in Guantanamo Bay. They would have probably trained them to fight as Gladiators. No decrying the Israeli attack upon Lebanon. No they would probably have occupied the country themselves in the interests of security to the borders of the Roman state. The fact that the world is not perfect does not preclude the existence of God, only that we, his instruments, have yet to bring it to the state he has in mind. Then again maybe we are still at the stage where there are several gods, one competing against the other. We better make up our minds and agree under which banner we are fighting or else we are going to wind up like that devoted journalist Thomas Keyes- fighting like mad against our own side. Then again if you are an athiest all of this means probably nothing.I suspect that a man of such keen intellect would want to detach himself from such a pointless existence. ------------ About the author: Read Mike Haran's essays on history at http://www.geocities.com/manzikertca/ Email: manzikertca@yahoo.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
