![]() By Kaycee Nilson Aug. 28, 2006 So after months hiatus, I decided to pop in again and see how my friends here at Useless Knowledge are doing. So how are yall doing? Ive been busy. Ive been involved with charity work and writing up a storm. Plus doing all the little details for my wedding next summer that goes along with a wedding. Deciding which caterer will be the best for us, investigating ballrooms, deciding stuff like what cake topper, what pen holder, what signing book. Its enough to make one sick at all the pretty colors and such. Plus deciding on the invitations, pouring over books and books of invitations and ordering samples. Trying to decide what flower petals for the flower girl basket. And then there is the monumental task of telling his mother that we are getting married (gasp) in a Baptist church. If it wasnt for the work Ive been doing with the Imermans Angels, I dont think I would keep my sanity. Imermans Angels is a group that pairs Cancer Survivors with Cancer Patients for 1 on 1 counseling and was founded by Jonny Imerman, a testicle cancer survivor. I am currently paired with an 82 year-old lady that recently was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and I call her at least twice a week to see how she is doing and to see if there is anything I can do for her or the family. She is a sweet woman, as is her family. They had no where to turn, and I have led them to many places on the internet to better research along with giving them information that I have gathered from the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Another group I have become involved with. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month and the color for Ovarian Cancer,(you know like pink is the color for Breast Cancer? ) is teal. I researched and on Woman Matters.com, every cancer that affects women has its own color. In an upcoming article, Ill explore these colors with you, but right now, this is more of a catch-up article. You know, a this is what is going on in my life and Im still alive. Well, thats about all thats been going on, except for my back. Its still messed up and they are about to do surgery on me, a bone fusion. Im not looking forward to it. But if that is what it will take for me to be in less pain, than so be it. As always, this column and $2.00 will get you a cup of coffee at your nearest coffee house! ------------ About the author: Kaycee Nilson has completed her first novel, "Night Falls on Chicago."
