Aug. 24, 2006 Don't believe the hype. Do you have a drinking problem? Are you having a hard time dealing with your emotions? Family troubles? Personal troubles? Not making as much money as you need to take care of bills and other expenses? According to some people, Jesus is the ultimate answer to all of this. Through Jesus all your problems will magically find answers, you'll get to walk through life with your eyebrows high, and your mouth curled in a perpetual smile. Through Jesus death will be a happy transition into a perfect paradise where everything is peachy like a Disney movie. Well, I'm sorry to burst your bubble folks, but in reality happiness isn't that easy to obtain, and death isn't that wonderful. I know it may make you feel good to believe in these things, but in the real world perfection is only possible in a computer simulation, and total happiness is only obtainable if you're high on some really good dope. You have to fight for the things you want, and earn your place by actually putting in the effort. If there is a god, and if that god has a divine plan, your prayers aren't going to help either, nor make any changes to that plan. Some may wonder, "Well... Who should I look to if I need advice?" Look to yourself. One of the great evils many religions commit is that they teach us to not rely on our abilities to solve our own problems. To have greater control over us, they make the claim that they are the only source for solutions; you are nothing. Many religions teach us to be lazy, to be uninterested in the world, and to rely on quick fixes and empty hopes. If there is a god, I highly doubt he/she/it would approve of the religions we have created that teach us to not rely on our own ingenuity to some extent. But what if you are incapable of finding solutions on your own? What if you run into a problem you just don't know how to solve? You can always look to other people, or professionals / doctors / therapists who have studied your kind of problems and may understand what could help you better than you can. A 2,000 year old book full of hatred and intolerance isn't going to help you. If anything it'll just turn you into another crazed Jesus fanatic. You may feel good after getting wrapped up in the Christian mythology, but you'll eventually just make the people around you miserable with your condescending, arrogant, and obsessed attitude. Some may wonder, "But some Christians say if I don't believe in Jesus, I'll go to Hell. Jesus is the only Truth." This entire statement is hilarious. Seriously, think about it for a moment. #1) What kind of a god would send you to a fiery pit just for not believing in his son? If someone didn't believe your son existed, would you punish them in this way? Hahaha. Shouldn't living a good life be good enough to satisfy this god? Really think about that. #2) And how can you know truth with only faith to support what you believe? Christianity is a religion about power, control, dominance, and fear. Its just one of many religions in the world, all of which are based heavily on the opinions of biased, and often prejudiced and ignorant men. Religion should unite us. It should not divide us simply because we have differing opinions on some issues. This is why I support philosophies like Buddhism, Taoism, and Transhumanism. Their principals center on peace, love, progress, and harmony, and aren't full of hateful crap. ------------ About the author: t411sh is a member and webmaster of: The Eleven Chapters of Life Society.
