Aug. 15, 2006 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16 Paul the Apostle was an encourager. He was a church planter. Every city Paul entered during his three recorded missionary journeys produced believers who formed congregations that expanded through the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus. Lives were changed. The world was changed. Paganism faltered in the face of truth. Yes, there were Gnostics and Stoics and Epicureans and general non-believers, and multi-deists and Judiazers, but none of those groups had answers to the truth of the resurrection and the eyewitness accounts of those who saw Jesus alive after his crucifixion. That is still the mystery centuries after the many attempts by atheists to disclaim the event. Believers continue. Believers flourish. Believers continue to spread the joy and love of Jesus to the unbelieving masses. “Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs” are a means of communicating the Gospel of Christ. There is never need to be abusive or even forceful in speaking the word in or out of season. The Gospel always speaks for itself and is never gruff in its presentation. Jesus was God incarnate during a period of thirty-three or thirty-four years. His approach before men was always in a spirit of mercy. He knew sin and sinners. He knew their thoughts and could anticipate their acts against him. He felt their anger. Over the several centuries since the First Advent the hatred of the world against the Son of God and his disciples has only grown. Every year there are so-called “new” philosophies and “new” revelations that point men away from Jesus into other myriad ideas of spiritual worthlessness. Then too, there are always the unbelievers with their continual attacks against faith in the true God. They do not concentrate on the religions that kill and maim or tyrannize the followers. They do not look at the works-based religions that enforce slave-like worship routines. They speak almost solely against the one faith that gives immediate liberty from the slavery of works. They make little sense in their objections. The “Word of Christ” is a word of love. It does not honor God to misuse the Word of Christ to establish any type of personal fame or fortune. It does not honor God to fail to speak against the forces of unbelief when they are aggressively abusive toward the true faith. Yet, a quiet answer will speak volumes. War is never the alternative. Jesus taught that the sword should remain in it’s sheathe and the only sword necessary is the Word of Christ. The “Sword of the Spirit” which is “The Word of God” is that which discerns truth from lie. Jesus could stop a lie with a simple citation of the Law of Moses which was given by God. Peter could silence whole crowds with his citations form the Prophets and Paul could almost convert Kings with his recitations from the Old Testament kings and Psalmists. The “Word of Christ” is the power of the Gospel. The Word of Christ has saved souls for centuries. The first two words of Psalm 37 are “Fear not…” There is a reason to use the Psalms to encourage and bolster one another against the spiritual principalities and powers infecting the world. There is power in all the words of scripture. Let the “Word of Christ” dwell in you. ------------ Email Skip: skiptoomaloo@hotmail.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
