Aug. 12, 2006 In his latest article "The Brain of the Issue" Fred Smith totally misses the point of John Waters' work, and makes claims about John which are blatantly false. Fred Smith likes to label people and call people bad names. This is a weakness in his writing. Fred's articles tend to be unduly long. Readers prefer a short article because reading is hard work. At any rate for John, reading is difficult. The main point of John's research is in 1979 that he discovered a way to rejuvenate his brain activity and feel very much younger. This process enabled John to develop certain personal qualities and characteristics that he'd not developed while growing up. This unconventional self-treatment helped John partially recover from what was termed "probable brain damage" by school investigators in 1954 when John was in ninth grade. John showed all the symptoms of autism. As this brain rejuvenation process worked, John's visual perceptions changed and other brain functioning changed as well. John took much more interest in people and in books. John became more helpful to people. John's family had no way of understanding this process because they'd never even heard of it let alone studied it. People were concerned about John's behavior. Part of John's new sensibility included what Swami Rudrananda called "yogic force." John experimented with this sensibility by interacting with various forms of life, including humans. This experimentation went on more than ten years before John read anything about Swami Rudrananda. Being perceptive and being youthful does not mean necessarily that you are a skilled debater or an encyclopedic mind. Fred Smith's mind is more or less encyclopedic. He seems to know a lot about certain science topics. But these are existing science topics. Fred is not promoting himself as working to produce new science. John is working to produce new science. It appears that Fred Smith misses the point in John's work because Fred repeatedly suggests that John is against science. Fred even suggests in his last article, "The Brain of the Issue" that John harbors a "new age brand of neo-Amish sentiments." Come on, Fred! That is way off. The fact is, John Waters spent over a decade experimenting with local new age people. He made a careful informal study of local people. John found a few people who sensed the healing and rejuvenating power that Swami Rudrananda called "yogic force." But again, it was many years before John ever read anything about Swami Rudrananda. The new age people John met rejected his idea that scientific research and reasoning power could ever bring to clarity the age of peace and understanding of "divinity" that certain prophets vaguely envisioned and foretold. One of these prophets was Johanna Brandt of South Africa. In about 1917 she published a prophetic book entitled "Millennium." The much more famous prophet and teacher Baha'u'llah also predicted that science and spirituality will unite. At any rate, during the 1980s all the new age people John met rejected his idea of integration of the brain and rejuvenation of the brain and applying reason and science to understand inspiration. Consequently during the nineties John turned more and more of his attention to university studies. The perception of what Swami Rudrananda called "yogic force" was called "kundalini" by Gopi Krishna. These men and other strong sensors and projectors of this "divine illumination" are certainly specimens of Homo sapiens and are well worth careful study by psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and other scientists. Since 1979, however, John has been standing in a no-man's-land middle-ground between the professional scientists and anti-scientists. John is a bridge-builder in the brain and in society. Well, so John has this original method. John is becoming more able to write cogently, so more people can get more information from John about this method. However to assist John there needs to be at least one good and patient editor to help John eliminate the "confetti" writing (that is Fred's term for it) and make John's presentation really direct, linear, and clear. John's main academic mentor has commented repeatedly that John's writing is slowly getting better. Editors at the campus writing center have said the same thing. It's unfortunate that (all or most) academic scientists INSIST that a person be an expert at such clear writing (and orderly PHD thesis writing) because some talented persons are more capable in science than they are in talking or in writing. Of course, we can get into minutiae and debate on "What is science?" ad nauseum. One famous American scientist and inventor had this to say about what makes a scientist: "Children are born true scientists. They spontaneously experiment and experience and reexperience again. They select, combine, and test, seeking to find order in their experiences - "which is the mostest? which is the leastest?" They smell, taste, bite, and touch-test for hardness, softness, springiness, roughness, smoothness, coldness, warmness: the heft, shake, punch, squeeze, push, crush, rub, and try to pull things apart." R. Buckminster Fuller US architect & engineer (1895 - 1983) ------------ About the author: sixty-six years young, and vigorous in mind, body, emotions, and spirit, John L. Waters is an independent researcher on self-healing, integration, creativity, and unity. To help demonstrate the effectiveness of his research, John has created thousands of drawings, paintings, instrumental music pieces, songs, prose pieces, poems, and other inventions. John has used his research to help persons remove a mental block and solve a problem. John also gives personal presentations which illustrate his research results. Each one of these works demonstrates the effectiveness of John's research.
