Aug. 10, 2006 As a conservative I have been wondering whether the defeat of Senator Lieberman in the Democratic primary was a good thing. After all it's not like he is a conservative, or that he is going to be replaced by a Republican. He was pro choice, even supporting partial birth abortion, he filibustered the reauthorization of the Patriot Act, he opposed the amendment to ban gay marriage, he was against the Presidents tax cuts, and against his judicial nominees. Hardly the actions of a right winger. The only thing that seperated the Senator from his comrades in the braying jackass party was he didn't favor running away like the French army at the first sign of trouble. So he deserves credit for that. Lamont and the other left wing moonbats talk about bringing our troops home to a heroes welcome, but want to end their mission in a most unheroic fashion. They don't want us out of Iraq because they want peace that badly, they simply want us to lose. Remember these are the same type of people that spat upon returning soldiers as baby killers, and wished for a "million Mogadishu's" They want to open the gates to let the barbarians in without a fight, insisting all the while that they are strong on defense. Hmm... history would seem to disagree. After all it's not like Clinton, who spent eight years not responding to terrorist attacks oversees, or Carter, who managed to mess up a rescue mission in Iran, have that many credentials on defense. But enough about that. Moveon, bought the party and it shows. The big tent of FDR has pulled up stakes and closed up shop. Back in 1992 Governor Casey of Pennsylvania was not allowed to speak at the national convention. Why? He was pro life. He was solidly liberal on everything else, but deviation from the orthodox was not allowed. And now there is no room for Joe Lieberman. Of course it was the right of Connectitcut Democrats to give the nomination to Lamont, and while it might be consideredn prinipled by some(not by me) I don't think anyone can consider this very bright. Nearly half of the states Democrats supported Lieberman, the blue collar workers, the moderates, and they were kicked out with him. This is now the Yuppie party, rich, left wing urbanites, no one else need apply. This leaves no room for moderates. Yes you have Senator Ben Nelson(D-NE) and Senator Bill Nelson(D- FL), but the only reason they are not being targeted is that there is no way a left wing candidate would have a chance in Nebraska, and down in Florida Senator Nelson is taking on Katherine Harris, a woman so hated by the democrats they want her dead. They will support anyone running against her. But the message has been sent regardless. Tow the line, and no unorthodoxy allowed. Even Hillary Clinton is now being targeted as a closet conservative. But that should suit the GOP just fine. The more the Democrats tear each other up the more it benefits the GOP. After all there is plenty of room under our tent. Just ask Christopher Shays, Jodi Rell, Olympis Snowe, Susan Collins, Linda Lingle, Rudy Giuliani, Arnold Schwarzenegger just to name a few. If the Democrats only have room for the Deaniacs, then I think we still have some more room. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
