Aug. 7, 2006 Whenever I hear talk of an international peacekeeping team being sent to a war zone it makes my heart swell with pride of previous successes of such forces. The Dutch and their brave stand to stop a massacre at Srebnica, the UN and how kindly they treated the congolese, or how well the African Union soldiers were able to help refugees from Darfur. Oh wait... none of those ever happened. That's right, it was just the opposite. The UN, is not only greedy and corrupt it is impotent as well. It might be willing to cut the fuse to the bomb, by standing in between two foes, but it is never ready to get rid of the bomb itself. So if the UN leaves the bomb can be relit, and in most cases the warring parties don't even bother to wait for the UN to leave, they just fight around them. There have been UN forces in south Lebanon for decades, in not one instance have they so much as lifted a finger to stop the fighting. Any new force introduced into Lebanon will be hadnicapped with two major problems. First it will not be authorized to use force, or to disarm Hizbollah. Secondly, even if the force were authorized, I doubt that Hizbollah would cooperate with any diarmament program. Hizbollah gets treated like a victim that needs protection rather than the terrorist force it really is. This is a thuggish organization that not only wants to conquer a soverign nation but would start a second holocaust if it were given half of a chance. These muslim nazis, are like their predecessors from the third reich, they are not interested in peace or co-existence, but they will use cease fires and diplomatic deals to their advantage and make themselves stronger. Who would be sent into Lebanon? The French? Yes, I can see them going through south Beirut, and Tyre trying to get weapons and rounding up Hizbollah terrorists. Or maybe the Germans, that will make the Israelis feel comfortable, German soldiers on the Israeli border. Either way it doesn't matter. No matter who makes up the force they will be doomed to failure. Hizbollah will not stop in its mission to destroy Israel, and Israel will not give up its right to self defense.(yet for some reason they are the only country that is habitually asked to do so, all in the name of peace) If we want peace, then we should let the IDF finish the job. Roads, bridges, and buildings can all be rebuilt, and they will most likely be rebuilt with American taxpayer money. But the Israelis have the means, and most importantly, the will, to eradicate a very dangerous group, one that is responsible of hundreds of terrorist attacks, and hundreds of deaths. I don't think anyone should weep over the demise of Hizbollah, in fact when the Israelis accomplish this feat it should be celebrated. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
