Apr. 28, 2006 Of the many polls recently taken by the mainstream media concerning subjects ranging from the war to the President’s approval ratings; all of which were slanted and intended to smear the policies of the duly elected American administration; the one poll everyone insists on regurgitating ad nausea is the 36% approval rating of Mr. Bush. There is little mention of the 22% approval rating of Congress in general. Last month I took an internal poll: http://www.useless-knowledge.com/1234/06mar/article240.html so this month I thought I would take an external poll. What prompted this poll was today’s Brit Hume’s “Grapevine” column. One section of his column talked of Tony Snow’s recent acceptance of the position of White House Press Secretary (A job I would mind having for a month just to nag Helen Thomas) and the reaction of certain individuals to this appointment. Quoting the column: “Can't Handle FOX News? One day after Tony Snow of FOX News was announced as the president's new press secretary, White House correspondents — led by Jim Vandehei of The Washington Post — demanded that the TVs in the press compartment of Air Force One be changed from FOX News to CNN.” “At a briefing with outgoing spokesman Scott McClellan, one reporter insisted, "There's been requests ... to turn these TVs onto a station other than Fox, and ... those have been denied." One wondered, "Is there a White House policy that all government TVs have to be tuned to FOX?" And one insisted, "[I'm] officially complaining about it." McClellan denied any such policy, and said the matter had never been brought to his attention before. But a short time later, he announced the change had been made.” The term “sour grapes” comes to mind and I want to cry but I have got to laugh. It is not enough that Fox is gaining a majority of viewers among those who want actual news with their news; there are those who want to take that news and replace it with the opinions of leftist talking heads with their administration destroying agendas. But I took my own external survey (poll) not 15 minutes ago. The building I work out of is compartmentalized with cubicles. Each section that works here has access to 24/7 news coverage via satellite linked television set. Of the 19 television sets I just previewed in a quick walk around of the sections 12 have been on Fox news, 2 have been turned to CNN, 2 more have been tuned to BBC News and three were completely turned off. The one super plasma screen was turned to FOX. Neil Cavuto’s head never looked bigger! Does my external survey mean anything? Well, it means about as much as all those approval rating polls that media loves to spout about. But 2 of 19 is not a good percentage for CNN (Clinton’s News Network) and MSNBC didn’t even make the screens around here. Chris Matthews is out in cyberspace somewhere with all his anti-Bush rhetoric, still seeking his audience. The policy here is that if the televisions are on at all they must be tuned to a news channel. It is no surprise to me that, in a sea of uniformed personnel, Fox News is their news of choice. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae has contributed over 500 articles to Useless-Knowledge.com.
