Apr. 25, 2006 Republicans are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for Bolton's Plan to unfold. No doubt they need a new strategy or any strategy at all with the latest tallies of Bush's falling approval numbers. Can they recover or is it a little too little too late? Let me outline the high points and you decide. According to CNN News from Monday, April 24, 2006 and the web site www.time.com Bolton's Five Part Plan looks like this- 1. Deploy more guns and badges to the Mexican border to try to control the onslaught of new arrivals. This includes more Border Patrol staff and a new fleet of ATV's. Is this just more frivolous spending with little consideration as to the overall implications or do Bush and Bolton honestly believe this will deter immigrants from entering our borders? The second half of this half baked plan involves creating the guest worker program that Bush clings to like a man on a life raft even with much criticism from both parties. 2. Making Wall Street Happy includes the creation of two new tax cuts to entice investors back to Wall Street. It also just so happens that many Republican's are investors and these tax cuts will dolled out for stock dividends and capital gains. Ok so let's say this helps bring people back to Wall Street, but what happens to Mr. and Mrs. Middle America who no longer have a job and cannot afford to invest? No thoughts as to the middle class because they, the Bush Administration, have no idea what a middle class is or does. 3. Brag more. Get real here. Bush bragged that the Mission was Accomplished way before it actually is/was in Iraq. Bush bragged that we are creating more jobs than we are losing, but if you follow the actual jobs lost vs. jobs gained we are losing our entire middle class and adding to the poverty level or barely getting by on the minimum wage. Specifically, the Bush Administration wants to brag about Medicare enrollment and their prescription drug plans, talk up the economy-even if it is dismal, and hint at their successes in Iraq. What they need to a real logical thought! 4. Reclaim credibility as far as America's security is concerned is the next topic in their plan. After the Dubai Ports debacle and Bush's standoff with the American public I think this is going to be a hard mark to make. In addition, Bush wants to continue to up his pressure on Iran to comply with his wishes with regard to their nuclear capability. Why can't he allow some inspectors to go over there and view this scenario first hand? Why does Bush have to bully every issue that crosses his idea of perfection? At any rate, people around the world wait to see if Bush is going to again attack an innocent country under is presidential prerogative. I for one hope NOT! 5. Court the press is the last item on their wish list and once again, I honestly believe, this is a little too little too late. The handlers for Bush want to make him appear more mainstream and less high-handed or indignant than before. This may be their toughest order yet since he, Bush, has had a lifetime of believing he was the chosen one. All of this they hope to accomplish over the coming six months prior to mid-term elections because losing there (in Congress) can have catastrophic effects on how they end up this presidency. Can they do it? Time will tell, but my money is against them.
