Apr. 16, 2006 Do you know it doesn’t matter that men have changed the event of the resurrection into an opportunity for profit? Even in the day of Jesus men were making a profit selling inferior sacrificial animals to those who came to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. There truly is nothing new under the sun. Do you know it doesn’t matter that supermarkets and department stores have changed the event of the resurrection into an opportunity to draw people away from their houses of worship into the houses of the merchants with enticing sales and the promise of bargains? Do you know it doesn’t matter that you play golf or watch your favorite sporting events on television while waiting for the holiday ham or turkey to cook? Do you know it doesn’t matter that you stay in bed sleeping late or even to choose to work on the holiday? The world turns the same way every day. The world has the same thoughts. The world executes the same actions. Whether by natural law or by man-made edict, the world stays exactly as it was on the day it received the curse of God. You can look around you, starting with the sunrise, seeing beauty and peace and prosperity and love and joy and happiness; that’s if you were fortunate enough to not have been born in the uglier parts of the globe. Where do your thoughts abide? Do you believe that since you live in peace all is right with the world? Do you concern yourself with your brothers and sisters? Do you ask as others have asked who are my brothers and sisters? The scriptures say we are all of the same blood. That is the blood of man. Whether you acknowledge it or not all men are related because truly there was a first man. Without the first there would never have been the second or the next. What you may not realize is that there will never be a “last” man. Men were created to be eternally present with their creator. The record is very clear. So it does not matter how the world has treated you in your life. It does not matter how you treated the world. Each man has his window of opportunity to make his eternity an eternal relationship with his creator. This is that opportunity for us of this age of man. It is appointed to man only one time to die a physical death. Afterwards there is a judgment. Again I would ask; where do your thoughts abide? Just as there are faux meanings to the holiday of Easter, there is the true meaning. The truth of the celebration lies in the resurrection of Jesus the Messiah. The resurrection is the certain and witnessed proof that God is ever true to the promise of redemption of the race of men. Thousands of years prior to the event of the resurrection of Jesus, Abraham spoke to his son Isaac saying: “God would provide himself a sacrifice.” The Easter celebration is the remembrance of the day God provided himself as the sacrifice for the sin of mankind. The resurrection is the proof of a completed redemption. Nothing else matters. Nothing else can take away the true meaning of the event that Easter represents. The entire nay saying of the universe cannot change the historical act executed by God on behalf of his creation.
