Apr. 16, 2006 No matter what you think about who may or may not have harmed Natalee Holloway you must believe by now that the people who govern and supposedly enforce the law on the Island of Aruba are corrupt, greedy and inept. The fact that a woman was assaulted and threatened and even provided a sketch to the police which they never followed up on should be enough to convince you but it doesn't stop there. The arrest of two innocent security guards, the bungled investigation, the lies, the fact that when Dave Holloway arrived on the island the day after Natalee disappeared and was told to cool his heels over a beer at C&C's and asked how much money he had should be enough...but there is STILL more. The spin continues and so do the lies. The police have backed themselves into such a narrow corner that there is no going back and the Island is virtually lawless. Murders go unsolved, Natalee is still gone and even Dutch law professors have commented on the insanity of what passes for police work on the Island of Aruba. Why haven't these bunglers been replaced? Why do they simply shift them around and give them new "portfolios" instead of kicking them in their behinds and sending them packing? The leadership on Aruba is just as guilty as those who follow them because it also continues to lie and spin. People who decide to vacation on such a place are literally risking their safety because there is NO ONE to protect them if some crime should be perpetrated upon them. NO ONE to protect them if they are assaulted or robbed and no one to protect them if they should go to a local club where the police are aware of illegal activity taking place every single night and day and do nothing to stop it. Putting security cameras on every beach and in every parking lot is not going to do anyone any good if there are no police to follow up on suspicious people who prey upon others. A sketch, a driver's license, an invitation to tea won't make those so-called police do their job because they simply don't care and those who do care, don't know how to do their job or are not allowed to. The one thing that has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt is that Aruba is NOT a safe place and the people employed to protect and serve the citizens who live on the Island and those who simply visit are incapable of doing so. We may never know what happened to Natalee Holloway but we can and should warn others away from that place and we can and should protect the children who may wish to visit there as a reward for graduating or any other reason. We can and should pay attention to what has happened on Aruba and stop defending it's inept government and bumbling police force. If you have a conscience you will warn others and remind them that Aruba is not a safe place for you, your children or your friends and neighbors. You may not be able to help Natalee Holloway or the other individuals who became prey on Aruba but you can try to prevent it from happening to anyone that you know.
