Freedom

By Kaycee Nilson
Apr. 15, 2006

I love this country because sometimes it’s the freedom to be you. It’s the freedom to be what you want and the freedom to speak your mind.

It’s hard to believe in this millennium that there are still countries where not only are you punished for what you say, but women are still treated like property and are not in charge of their own destinies.

I have the freedom to write my words and have them published. I have the freedom to choose whom I marry. I have the freedom to slowly kill myself with alcohol and cigarettes if I want. I have the freedom to quick and speedy medical assistance.

I think that 9/11/01 made the American public really realize how much we take our freedom for granted and for one day, we realized that for once our freedoms could be targeted for detriments.

For years, young men and young women have put their lives on the line in order for the rest of America to enjoy the first amendment and any other amendment as well as the basic Constitution itself.

Defenders of America. Defenders of American Way of Life. Defenders of the Constitution. But do I agree with our armed forces being in Iraq? NO!

I recently learned that a friend of mind watched as a platoon member was shot in her eye from a sniper in Iraq. And now there is rumor of going to Iran because of uranium containments?

What happened to the search for Ossama? Did we forget his atrocities against our way of life because of some “Ji’ Haad?” If they can send out videotapes, then Al Kiada has too much time on their hands.

I guess that is their religious freedom in the world to promote their hatred, but the attack on our own homeland is unforgivable in anyone’s book. Many people witnessed the attacks, either in person or glued to the television. It was both horrifying and disbelief that kept us from falling apart as a country.

I know you have to kick a little, but it seems to me we haven’t kicked enough.
