Shout Out To My Jersey Fans!

By Kaycee Nilson
Apr. 13, 2006

Recently I wrote a column about finding my best friend from High School, Angela. To my shock and surprise, many of her friends in Jersey read my columns. To them, thanks for the liking of my writings! I really appreciate it!

I didn’t know I had a fan base in New Jersey that is eagerly awaiting the publication of my novel, “Night Falls On Chicago.” I also didn’t know that they also read my columns. And imagine their shock to learn that Angela and I were best friends in high school and found each other after 21 years of absence!

I do so hope that you ladies send me an email, I really would love to get your insight on my writings. I love constructive critism. I don’t react well to public attacks. I don’t know anyone in their right mind that reacts well to public attacks.

When Angela told me that her friends in New Jersey knew who I was as a writer and they read my columns regularly, I nearly fainted! Imagine MY surprise when I found out about her friends reading my writings and wanting to meet me! YES ME!

Even if I don’t get my book published, I will be making a trip to New Jersey to meet these wonderful people that know my writings and of course to see Angela and her husband and baby and to do some down- home country cooking.

I admire Angela for backing me, even after all these years and us just re-connecting about two weeks ago. She was my biggest supporter in High School and stood up for me on more than one incident. But to know that her friends are excited that she knows me makes me dumb- founded. I never thought that anyone in Jersey would even know my name.

But having found out I have a fan base in Jersey was the best medication I could ever have. It beats all these muscle relaxers and pain pills that I rarely take. I try to stick the pain out as much as I can because I don’t want to become addicted or dependent on them.

I cannot wait to go to Jersey and to meet my fan base there and to get to know them personally. That’s what I love about writing, is meeting people that have read my words and they are so impressed that they have to meet me in person. It’s like the first time I gave an autograph in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

For me that makes the work I put into each column worth the effort. To know that you have made a difference in someone’s life or entertained them and touched them is a feeling that only the birth of your own child can be more satisfying. To know that you brought joy into the heart of someone or that you made someone think about their life and what they have been through is what writing is all about.

See you soon fans in Jersey!
