![]() By Kaycee Nilson Apr. 11, 2006 I recently learned that my 20th High School Reunion would be held in July. I have thoughts on it. Oh yes, I will be going, but I want to go to rub in the face of a lot of people that picked on me in school that said that I would never amount to anything. In school, I was the girl that was the Nerd, the Geek in glasses, the D&D playing dork. The worst part was being a band geek. I had these over-sized glasses and looked like a librarian most of the time. But oh boy have I changed in the past 20 years. Where I was a stick for many years, I now have the womanly curves. Glasses gave away to contacts and mousy brown hair went to brilliant red. Add a couple of inches to height and a few pounds and I am not the same I was in school. True I’m still intellectual even though my columns may not reflect that. But I am different now, I stop traffic and have construction workers whistle at me. The inside is different too, I used to be a nun like thing in high school but now I am a tough as nails hard city girl. I still have slight traces of my country roots, but I don’t take no mess off of no body. I can’t wait to see my crew again. We were the misfits that for no other reason, we hung out together and we probably were in larger numbers than the “A Crowd.” I can’t wait to see the head cheerleader and the prom queen again and hopefully both are fat. I want the editor’s permission to print off a few of my columns and take them with me to shove under the noses of the football team, the basketball team, and anyone else that called me “Four-eyes” and “Geek!” Yes, I am looking forwards to this reunion, I have some old scores to settle, I have some myths to dispel and I have a lot of anger to get out at the correct people. I want to rinse my soul for taking years of abuse and keeping my head down. I am going to stand up straight and look at my tormentors in the face and I’m going to tell them where to take their next tropical vacation and jump up my rear. My best friend and I are going back to that tiny town as divas, she as a plus sized model that is famous, and me as a columnist that has had my words translated into 5 different languages. We are going into this reunion in our most “Drop dead beauty” and make some people eat crow. Those people that told me that she was dead are going to get the shock of their lives when they see her alive and well. Those people are also going to get an earful from me. I don’t care if it sounds petty but I finally get to see my tormentors after 20 years and tell them what heck they made my life. Then with my handsome fiancé I am going to tear up the dance floor and laugh with Angela on how our lives are better now then when we were in High School.
