Apr. 10, 2006 The U.S. Senate, which has shown that it has all the bravery of a battalion of French troops, has let an immigration deal die. Well, there are two parts to this. First of all their idea for immigration reform was horrible.(after all it was just Amnesty with a different name) and secondly the Senate thought it was being too harsh with its wimpy bill. So nothing will be done until congress returns, and we are now subjcted to more mass protests of criminals who think they should be rewarded for their illegal behavior. What our Senators should do is remember who these protestors are. Many belong to far left groups that want to annex the west to Mexico, or at the very least, put the western states under Mexico's sphere of influence.(That may have already happened. Much of this is being run out of Mexico City.) The truth is our nanny state politicians aren't going to do anything about this. You see, they know better. The idea of the nanny state is that Americans are too dumb or too lazy to take care of things so we need Washington to do it for us. Consider the condenscending words of Governor Mike Huckabee(R-Arkansas) while he was in New Hampshire, (I paraphrase his words here): If americans want to pick their own fruits and vegetables, wash their own cars, cut their own lawn, then we can build a wall. But Americans aren't willing to do these jobs for the wages offered. If we stop immigration your next meal and next hotel stay won't be very pleasant. Again that wasn't an exact quote. Rather insulting isn't it? And to think this man wants to be the next President of the United States. Let's see here. I do grow and pick my own vegetables, wash cars(considering all the self service, automatic carwashes, I don't know why we need illegals to do that) I eat at restaraunts with no Mexican workers, the food is good and the prices are affordable. Contrary to the paternalistic, snotty drivel oozing out of D.C. illegals aren't needed to fuel the American economy. It's funny, when politicans want votes, or union money, they endlessly extoll the hard work ethic and ingenuity of the American worker. Talk about cracking down on illegal border crossings and all the sudden were a bunch of lazy boors who need illegal labor to keep our economy afloat. I see American restaraunt,and hotel, (not to mention other areas of our economy) workers and they do just fine and it doesn't cost us an arm and a leg. Why? Most of the people doing these jobs are young and don't have families to support so they can afford to do the job for less, making what they do affordable to the American consumer. It's not that Americans won't do the work, it's that businesses that hire illegals have decreed that we won't so they hire illegals. Americans are tired of empty rhetoric and half measures. Look at the results of the following poll from Time: 56% want a wall along the entire border. 62% want the military on the border. 47% want illegals deported. 51% said America would be better off if illegals were deported. 75% said illegals should be denied governments services. Now perhaps I am being naive, but I thought congress was elected to represent the people.(not illegal immigrants) The people want immediate action on illegal immigration, not more empty promises. No more talk it is time for action. In November the American people have a chance to send a message to the open border supporters. It's time to throw them out and elect someone who will take illegal immigration seriously. I mean talk about Americans not being willing to work, just look at congress. So it's time for a demand.
