George W. Bush Didn't Think We Would Find WMD In Iraq

By Mark Gelbart

The mainstream media is ignoring a startling revelation from prewar memos between George W. Bush and Tony Blair that were confirmed on March 27 by The New York Times. In these memos President Bush clearly states that he didn't think weapons of mass destruction would be found in Iraq. This story is completely unmentioned by CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox (which according to Media Matters spent twice as much time covering Cynthia Mckinney as they did on Bush's leaking of classified material). Where is the so called liberal media on this story? They should be holding Bush's feet to the fire and asking this simple and important question: Why did we invade and now occupy Iraq?

For two years President Bush lied to us; telling us how Saddam was connected to bin Laden, how he was going to have unmanned aerial vehicles capable of reaching the U.S, how he had tons of chemical weapons and biological hazards capable of wiping out all life on earth, and how he was acquiring nuclear materials. But Bush didn't really believe there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

So why? Why? Why? Why? And why is no one asking?

Now, we find out that President Bush himself is the leak. I knew this all along, but the geniuses in the press can't seem to put two and two together. Bush said anyone caught leaking classified information would be dealt with. Well, it's time to deal with himself--he should resign his dismal, corrupt, and failed regime.

Incredibly, the press is giving him a free pass on this issue as well. The consensus in the press is this: that it exposes hypocrisy and undermines Bush's credibility but is not illegal. Actually, the legality of what the president did is murky at best. At the very least, he violated his own executive order. To manipulate intelligence like he did is definitely illegal.

The leak President Bush allowed was only part of an intelligence report that is now declassified. The information he was trying to convey was Saddam's supposed efforts to obtain nuclear material. However, he did not leak the part of the report stating the CIA's doubt of this assessment. Make no mistake about it, manipulating intelligence is illegal, and that is what President Bush did. And because he broke the law, he has committed yet another impeachable offense.

For whatever reason, the press is protecting this dangerously incompetent, immoral, law breaking crook. But the American people are finally beginning to see how bad their leadership is. The alternative, of course, is the democrats. The press keeps saying, "republicans have all these problems, but democrats are in disarray. They have no plan." A recent poll has democrats with a sixteen point lead over republicans. Is this the result of a party in disarray with no plan?

Too bad democrats agreed to all the republican gerrymandering over the past decade. Winning back seats in Congress is going to be hard.
