Brett Favre, Can You Make Up Your Mind?

By Kaycee Nilson
Apr. 8, 2006

The quarterback for the legendary Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre held a news conference on Saturday, April 8, 2006, to announce if he was going to be retiring this year or play another year as QB for GB. He came to the podium in front of the reporters that had been there from nearly every news agency in the Wisconsin area and he basically said, “I’m sorry you came here for nothing, I have not made up my mind yet!”

Could `you imagine having that much power to stop a major NFL Team from making preparations for the NFL Draft or for the 2nd and 3rd string quarterbacks not knowing if they should prepare as back up or starters? What chutzpah!

I love that in a man!

But now reporters all over the country for sports are reporting “unfavreably” about our Mr. Favre. No matter if he stays and plays another year and shatters QB Records this next season, he will be remembered for today’s press conference. Even if he retires, no one will rejoice in the records he did have for the Packers. Some say he’s coming across as having major power within the Packer Organization. Other say he’s a jerk.

In two weeks the NFL Draft starts and him not having a direction to go into right now may not be his fault. You reporters have to keep in mind that Football is not all that this man has in his life. I fully understand the confusion that he is going through. He had a bad season last year, his wife is sick, his daughter graduates from High School this year. No wonder the man cannot decide to retire or stay one more year. Heck, I doubt I would know at this point if I was him and a Quarterback that has been in that position for years now and have my own room at the Packer Hall of Fame and Museum.

Everything has to be weighed, measured and judged. And when I say everything, I mean everything, from professional to personal. I have been in that situation in the past and I had to know that my personal would affect my professional and I had to act on the personal in order to bring peace in my professional world.

What ever Brett Favre decides to do, I support him 100%. He has to do what is right and correct for him and for his family. If he decides to retire, I wish him peace and happiness to enjoy his retirement. If he decides to play one more year, I hope the Packers aren’t filled with injured players and they have a better year under their new head coach, Mike McCarthy.

I wish that on the Packers even if Farve decides to retire. Lord knows a new coach needs a good first year in order to keep his job!

GO PACK! MAKE IT BACK!
