Apr. 3, 2006 With one million illegal immigrants entering the country every year, and with such ease, you would think that we would have locked down our border some time ago. Or at least made the attempt to do so. But that is not the case. No president from either party has done anything to secure our border and stop the invasion, unless you count the countless speeches that are nothing but lip service. Our own rules practically invite them to come in. We have to give them health care, educate their children, basically provide them with any social service that would go to a citizen of this country. Except since they are here illegally, they aren't paying into the system. Which means that everyone else is. I wonder how we are going to pay for it all? Soon the baby boomers will be retiring, and we will be paying for their retirement, add the expenses racked up by the illegals(given the fact that they are getting a lot more than they are giving) and I don't see how this country is going to be able to stay afloat financially. We are already the largest debtor nation in the world, how are we going to be able to pay for all of this? I think that's an important question. In the public arena words matter. Each side chooses their words carefully(follow me for a minute and you will see where I am going with this) for example opponents of the war in Iraq call them insurgents because that doesn't sound nearly as bad as calling them terrorists. It's called partial birth abortion because the pro abort crowd can't call it what it really is: infanticide. People who want immigration laws enforced call them illegal immigrants, focusing on the fact that they broke the law in coming here. That's true enough. People on the open borders end call them migrants, it makes them sound more pitiful, they hope that it will generate more sympathy. Migrant conjures up images of a poor family leaving their home in hopes of a better life only to be exploited in the new country. Both sides are using the wrong label. They are not migrants and they are not immigrants. They are colonists. Immigrant implies that you are leaving your homeland for another country. That you are foresaking the former to embrace the latter. That you will adapt and embrace your new home and leave all allegiances to the old behind. One good look at the protest in L.A. with all those Mexican flags should bury any notion that they are coming here to be Americans. No, overwhelmingly Mexicans don't see the southwest as part of the U.S. oh sure the flag is flying their for now, but since it was once part of Mexico they have every right to move in and take it back for Mexico. Call it war by demographics. Of course, the mexican government doesn't really want the southwest back, some Mexican fanatics that believe in Aztlan might, but not the Mexican government. If they were to get it back they would have to actually take care of the people living there. No, they want to export their citizens to a land that will employ them(so they can send money home) that will take care of them(because Mexico won't) and they meddle to make sure that we don't dare decide who should come in and who shouldn't. Fox snaps his fingers and we have 500,000 protestor in Los Angeles. It's time to stop the debate on illegal immigration. No amnesty, no guest workers. It's time to build a wall and build it now. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
