Christ Is Indeed Alive - 1 Corinthians 15: 20-28

“20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.” (1 Corinthians 15: 20-28 NIV Bible Online)

First allow me to apologize for permitting myself to be distracted from First Corinthians Chapter 15 over the past two columns.

Paul here is continuing to explain the import of the resurrection. He is also explaining the symbolism between Christ and the first man, Adam. Jesus is the first fruits of the resurrection. As with anything considered “first fruits” there is an inference that more fruit will be gathered in harvest.

There is a truth that admits that Jesus is God. There is a belief that implies that Jesus did not give up any part of his power or authority as God while on earth. Jesus did volunteer to suffer. As fully God he would never suffer, but he had to volunteer to accept a lessening of his portion of the Godhead to ensure he could fully understand and fully empathize with humanity at large. He had to suffer the full range of temptation and pain of suffering. He did that by his own choice. He had to be equal to the first man.

After the resurrection he reseated beside his Father at his right hand. The Father had promised that the end would come upon having placed all things back under his Son’s authority, including death. Jesus now controls all the machinations of the world both in the spiritual and the physical. He allows what he allows and he controls what he does not allow. All men in the meantime still have the option to believe.

When the last enemy is defeated, the White Throne will have the last word and God the Father will again fully control all the events of eternity. Father, Son and Spirit will maintain the dwelling universe and God will complete all the plans he had originally planned from the beginning. The believing remnant of Israel will hold the New Earth and any other lands God chooses to bestow. The Bride of Christ will dwell in the home of the Lord never to be unloved and never to be given away. Those who are salvaged out of the remainder of all the human groups may have it well in eternity. They will have regained the eternal physical form lost by Adam and they will eternally be in the presence of God.

None of that is available to those who fall in unbelief.
