Dec. 30, 2005 “I hear that a number of powerful Democratic senators are working behind the scenes on a plan to force the issue. According to Democratic Party sources, Hillary Clinton, as well as [Harry] Reid, among others are trying to put together a strongly worded letter to the President, calling on him to publicly pledge that he will not pardon [Scooter] Libby. The hope is to have the letter signed by all 44 Democratic senators.” Opinion, “Stars and Stripes” (Nov.14) Arianna Huffington This same group said nothing about Bill Clinton’s pardon of the criminal, Marc Rich; especially the great and powerful Hillary Clinton. After all, Mr. Rich donated a hefty sum of cash for the Clinton “lie-berry”. Can you spell hypocrite? “Is five Catholics on the U.S. Supreme Court one Catholic too many? Is five justices on the nation’s highest court of any religious persuasion one too many – whether Jewish, Southern Baptist or Methodist?” Opinion, “Stars and Stripes” (Nov.22) George Mutrovich The concern here is over Samuel Alito’s religion. The concern should be over Samuel Alito’s ability to interpret law without allowing politics to intervene. I believe 5 liberals are 5 too many on a court that makes law and permits killing innocent children, but that’s just me. The SCOTUS is a court of law, not religion. “It’s not about them – it’s about us.” With these words, Sen. John McCain won my undying gratitude. Excusing practices like indefinite detention, torture and denial of basic human rights, the Bush administration has pointed to the alleged badness of the people we have locked up. McCain broke that spell.” Opinion, “Stars and Stripes” (Dec. 8) Susanna Rodell America is already the most tolerant and kinder and gentler nation on the planet. We give criminals we detain three meals a day, television and radio, books and magazines, interaction with spouses, prayer rugs and new Korans and we coddle them with free medical and dental care including the replacement of lost limbs. They get lawyers and a lot of leftist love. This opinion piece was nothing more than a reiteration of the Dick Durbin argument that it is the American forces that are more evil than the Taliban. Sen. McCain has bought into this because he wants to be president some day. “Alleged badness!” Make me puke! Can you say 9/11, IED, suicide bomber, Talian, USS Cole, Madrid, London, Istanbul, Bali, Washington D.C. area sniper, dirty bomb, and need I go on? “While President Bush paints Iraq as the central front in the war on terror, the former members of the 9/11 Commission say the government isn’t doing enough to protect us from another attack at home.” Opinion, “Stars and Stripes (Dec. 13) Trudy Rubin Why is anyone still concerned with this group of nabobs that ignored “Abel Danger” and the Jamie Gorelick wall of silence between the FBI and the CIA which caused 9/11 in the first place? These old guys and Gorelick had their investigation and printed their final recommendations. Those recommendations could have included not having Gorelick on the commission that should have found her at fault (conflict of interest) and a recommendation to never let Sandy Berger within a hundred miles of a classified Clinton administration document (which subsequently ends up in a shredder). Everything takes time, money and effort. Just because Bush didn’t jump through the 41 hoops set up by the 9/11 Commission recommendations doesn’t mean there isn’t anything being done. There has not been another major attack since 9/11 and that should say something. It does say to the left that they are losing their line of argument. Iraq IS central. Ask any radical terrorist why he is in Iraq and he’ll tell you it is because he cannot afford the air fare to America. Article: “Lieberman’s pro-war views concern Dems” AP by Andrew Miga, quote:” Sen. Joe Lieberman’s staunch stay-the-course defense of President Bush’s Iraq policies isn’t winning him any friends among fellow democrats.” His words “drew a frosty response from Howard dean… We believe that talking about the president’s failed strategy in Iraq is not unpatriotic. It may undercut the president, but it does not undercut our troops.” Imagine! Dean says it is okay to undercut the Commander-In-Chief of all the troops because what he and Dick Durbin and Ted Kennedy say about American troops being torturous, Taliban, Khmer Rouge, KGB, Nazis and general ruffians doesn’t undercut the troops. Calling for retreat in the face of victory does not undercut the troops.
