How Has 2005 Benefited Useless Knowledge...?

By Ken Hughes
Dec. 30, 2005

UK has become less political and more confrontational. Some of the more seasoned contributors such as myself have had to move aside and make room for newer writers. That’s probably a good thing now we old-timers take less heat. Accusations are spread around among a broader group. On a positive side, we’re given the benefit of a much greater verity of information. We’re able to pick and chose from more opinions. We’ve gained new friends, we’ve learned who are not our friends. Overall, I think we’ve all benefited by this last year with UK, I know I have.

To our Editors credit, the second “Columnist of the Year” contest was handled with several improvements over the first one last year. Dennis Siluk, Judy Ramsook, Stan Grimes, and Timothy Stelly are all to be congratulated. As for the voting one contributor off I won’t comment on that except that it’s a practice I disapprove of. That’s what editors are suppose to do, that’s why their called editors.

Young Max Burns has moved on with the exception of an occasional article. Young Jack Lepiraz has joined us. Jack is another High school student with a great deal of talent. The next time anyone claims the younger generation isn’t up to our standards think about these two young men before you answer.

Fifteen new contributors joined Michael John McCrae and myself at the 100 Club this year. I see this as a good thing it speaks well for dedication to ones goals. Shere Zieve has moved on to become a nationally recognized Columnist since her interview with Alan Colmes on his Radio show. Dr. Brooks Mick may have to split recognition as celebrity [proximate] of the year with Mac McCrae. Bill O’Reilly called the Doc a pinhead a distinction awarded very few. This year Mac McCrae shook hands with both George Bush Sr. and Ollie North. Spending two years in the Middle East is a high price to pay for such an honor.

Dennis Siluk and I both received personal letters from President George W. Bush thanking us for our services contributing to his reelection. I’ve managed to be on the Presidents Christmas Card list the past four years as well as Liddy Doles and Bill Frists. Since I’m not a [big bucks] contributor I can only assume it’s because of my association with UK and perhaps other Web Magazines I’ve contributed to. Enough about Me. Back to Useless Knowledge.

Useless Knowledge Magazine has given an opportunity to many of us to express our views. It’s one of the few web sites where opinions aren’t questioned. Some of us contribute to other venues I can assure you UK allows more freedom of expression than most. I dare say there isn’t one of us who shouldn’t be giving credit to UK for the exposure and making us better writers.

I wish each of you a very happy and prosperous New Year. Remember when we contribute our opinions they’re read around the world. We’re what Americans are perceived to be so please let’s keep our articles positive and useful promoting this Great Country that allows us this freedom of expression ………Ken
