What Is Wrong With You, Tom Clancy?

No really Tom Clancy, move over you’re running out of ideas and the charm offensive is becoming offensive, it is time for new(er) hard-hitting kids on the block like Stephen Lonewolf (yeah right Lonewolf always brash…)…..

But really I was penning down ‘Inside The Mind Of A Terrorist when I came across a jumble book sale and lo and behold a much sought after (by me) Clancy something about a Tiger or its posterior and I practically pounced on it (Get it? Pounced …)

It was your usual – normal expected run – of – the – mill but then I guess it should not be your usual – run – of – any – mill … but Mr. Tom gets your adrenals all souped up and you get all page turny…

Some pages in already and I started getting a bit irritated by the danged (reference to ‘the sight line from NSA at Fort Meade and Langley, Virginia (I was secretly praying it wouldn’t be another ‘Our Lady Of Microwaves’ thing, again) but apart from constantly losing myself along the plot and finding my way again, a little girl on her way to or from school gets napped and then the anticipation begins to really turn on and then all of a sudden little girl winds up dead – not just dead but apparently sexually abused dead (inferred) and her throat horribly cut (not just slit) dead and the killer is plugged…

Jeepers Tom! What is wrong with you? Adults get their throats cut, bad adults mostly men and sometimes call girls but not little boys and girls, not by Americans not even sick Americans! Shoot Tom you’re losing it – I said on Rainbow Six and am saying it now. Then the story moves in to full gear, a bunch of fanatical crazies travel half way right across America just to shoot up a shopping mall leaving a number of ordinary Americans dead including again a little boy – little boys and little boys and little girls – oh the outrage [but hey let’s forget about the ‘collateral damage little boys and little girls’ that get ‘daisy cuttered’ by not so smart cruise missles and depleted uranium fall outs … no outrage there folks, move along folks there is nothing to see …]after little child numero two dies one of our main characters is filled with such rage that little boy has been offed by bad arabs) and righteous indignation wells and trigger finger mode sets in…. “kill A-rabs, kill Wogs, kill A-rabs.”

But then even more bizarre, a secret compound which can kill mimick a heart attack and not be detected at least by the actors in the book is discovered just in time for two highly covert – ‘black ops’ agents to carry along and off the people behind the attacks on – in heart – land America……. walk up unsuspectingly and jab target in the butt with a poison pen and walk away.

Sorry folks but more and the whole war on terror thing is beginning to read just like a Tom Clancy – the now Tom Clancy, no maybe its just the whole industrial – military psychological complex or complex… let em close enough to kill close to enough Americans then the outrage, then the chance opportunity to test the latest toys from Weapons ’R’ Us, to see if that intelligence hardware worked or not, if it will stand to a (nother) real time, real people simulation or not … add that to the already ‘inbox full’ conspiracy theory archive storage, better call it – call me a crank and plot more scenarios but back to Tom and dead little girls immobilized in bath tubs – chopping off a little pink pinky or a toe or cutting off an ear and grilling it would have been may be not quite as dramatic but at least the best of plastic surgery would have been available (Mr Bobbit or whoever had his ‘thingy’ sewn back on after wifey did some cutty) and little girl would still be alive.

Its just a story, its just a book but when a well respected story teller (forget about Stephen King that is sick……) begins to murder little girls……..

Me, I can’t understand why Tom had to kill that little girl.
