Dec. 28, 2005 I was raised to believe that if you performed a job or certain duty, it was something you took great pride in, for if you did a job poorly it reflected on you and whatever reputation you have managed to acquire over a period of time. The world is changing at such a dramatic pace that it is not difficult to observe how lackadaisical some people in the workplace have become. For example, say you are frantically searching for a much needed item and you head down to the nearest retail outlet, but upon asking a sales person about the thing you are seeking, you are faced with such responses as: ‘Um, I don’t work in this department, let me find the person who does.’ Upon locating the respective employee, you are filled with a sense of relief, but when you ask for whatever item you are looking for, again you get the feeling that some persons are just not trying hard enough. You are faced with a response that will delay your mission even further such as: ‘ I don’t know if we have that,’ after which you follow him or her around as they go in search of the item you are seeking. One would think that if people are in the business of selling goods, they would at least take the time to familiarize themselves with their stock of merchandise or at the very least, act as if they know what they are there for. As opposed to leaving the now impatient customer wondering such things like, ‘ and these people have jobs.’ Whatever happened to employee efficiency and proper customer service? Maybe for the new year some persons should make a resolution to be more efficient on the job or at least re acquaint themselves with whatever services or items they provide or are in the business of selling. It would make the customer happier next time he or she shows up for an item or service. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
