A World Of American Lunacy

By Michael John McCrae
Dec. 23, 2005

The State of Illinois is faced with having to create legislation making it illegal to protest at military funerals inside of a 300 foot zone around the funeral site.

In “Ill. Law would set a barrier for protests at military funerals”, “Stars and Stripes” by Leo Shane III (Dec. 5), I learned that war protestors have been going to military funerals. They do not go to honor the dead or to share their grief with the family of the dead soldiers. They go to loudly and obscenely yell at the mourners of those who died to protect their right to be loud and obscene in the name of free speech.

Quote: “At a November 29 funeral service in North Lake Ill. Members of [the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church] shouted at mourners and held up banners reading “God is America’s terror.” and “Thank God for dead soldiers.”

It is terribly sad that families in Illinois have been harassed in this way. That anyone would create such a chaotic scene in the name of God is reprehensible. The barrier should be three hundred miles; not three hundred feet. Every one of these protestors need some jail time.

Then there is this article: “Democrats struggle to find consensus on war”; “The Washington Post” by Jonathan Weisman (Dec.3) that tells me “Nancy Pelosi’s embrace of a rapid withdrawal from Iraq highlighted the Democratic Party’s divisions on war policy…”

What a highlight that was!

Right in the middle of calls from “House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer that any “precipitous withdrawal of American forces in Iraq could lead to disaster”; here comes Nancy’s full agreement with John Murtha’s call for retreat.

There is no Democratic consensus on the war. The only Democrat consensus I am aware of is the one of appeasement and tolerance for the poor, misunderstood, radical Islamic, scumbag murderers that got everyone to vote for Sen. McCain’s anti-torture-to-protect-all-enemy-combatants bill.

In the meantime I am reading: “Prosecutors: Would-be-assassin was determined to kill President Bush”; and this is a no brainier.

Amed Omar Abu Ali is being tried for joining al-Qaida and hoping for his chance of “shooting or blowing up…the leader of the infadels”.

Abu Ali’s defense for changing sides and betraying America quote: “This is a case of an American student who was threatened, beaten and tortured into giving false confessions…”

Mr. Ali was caught in Saudi Arabia and returned to America for trial. He claims torture and whippings that bloodied his back to make him spout false confessions. I say make him take off his shirt so we can see the scars.

That really won’t prove anything since some radical Islamic groups whip themselves bloody in a form of martyr’s dance routine at certain times of the year. I would just like a straight answer to why Ali would leave the safety of Virginia, join al-Qaida and threaten to kill President Bush before he was taken into custody?

Anyway, the whole case will probably be tossed and Mr. Ali will have a chance to return to his al-Qaida buddies to complete his plans for personal martyrdom. Good luck Ali!

I loved this opening paragraph from the article: “Bush may be down, but don’t count him out yet” AP, by Tom Ruam. Quote: “Other Presidents have recovered from ratings slumps like the one George W. Bush is in right now: Dwight Eisenhower came back after the Sherman Adams scandal; Ronald Reagan rebounded after Iran-Contra; Bill Clinton triumphed after Monica Lewinski.”

After laughing so hard that I almost had to change my shorts, I read: “Bush might want [to] look back to successful predecessors for pointers.”

I then HAD to change my shorts!

WHAT; should Bush take up cigar smoking, intern snacking and dress staining? I think not.

The economy has been rebounding and approval numbers are raising thanks to tax cuts and a round of personal responses to Democratic idiocy that have been long-a-coming! Bush doesn’t give a flying flip about polls. He isn’t running for anything. He is busy protecting America, thank you!

And what of the valued and vaunted United nations we are supposed to be reforming? In the article: “Wartime exploitation of women must stop, says U.N.” AP, by Robin Hindery I read: “Five years after a landmark U.N. resolution committing governments to protect women from the abuses of war, the Security Council condemned the continuing sexual exploitation and violence against women.”

It turns out that nations are ignoring this “landmark” resolution in much the same way Saddam Hussein ignored 17 “landmark” resolutions against him.

Quote: “A report released October 18th by Refugees International accused U.N. peacekeepers of engaging in sexual misconduct despite the global body’s zero tolerance policy, and erecting a “wall of silence” to protect themselves from outside criticism.”

The reaction of the U.N. to the report was immediate and measured: “The council statement reiterated its strong condemnation of sexual misconduct…”

Boy! I’ll bet every peacekeeper saw that “strong” reiteration of the resolution that was being ignored for 5 consecutive years and stopped raping women immediately! I’ll bet pigs flew on that day too!

I enjoyed the article: “Lawsuit Targets Navy Sonar”, subtitled: “Equipment causes whales, dolphins to beach, groups say” AP, by Tim Molloy.

First paragraph: “The Navy’s most widely used form of sonar is disturbing whales and dolphins, even driving some to their deaths according to a lawsuit filed by environmental groups.

This article was supported by a single photograph of a single “beaked whale beached on the Canary Islands in 2002 and notes three citations between years 2000 and 2005 of dolphin and whale beaching, blamed on Naval exercises hundreds of miles distant from the beaching sites with one exception of 8 whales in the year 2000 that the Navy did take responsibility for.

It was the 2000 beaching that caused the navy to reevaluate all future exercises to ensure there were no repetitions. The lawsuit says that is not good enough. The environmental groups want to strip the United States Navy of its ability to recognize possible threats from enemy naval warships.

Two short shots of news told me you have to love those rascally American teenagers. First” “Police say two teenagers skipped school and drank whiskey before shooting at passing cars with a rifle and a BB gun.” The Merrimack, New Hampshire lads were ages 14 and 15. Second: In Hampton, VA “A 13-year-old middle school student is charged with trying to poison her teacher by putting dry erase board cleaner in his coffee cup.”

Finally in the article, “Two say U.S. used lions in torture” AP, by Lolita C. Baldor, Mr. Sherzad Kamal Khalid and Thahe Mohammed Sabbar claim that those torturous American Taliban threw them into a “cage of lions in a Baghdad palace” as part of a 2003 “torture ritual”. The two men filed suit against Secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld and the ACLU has taken up the case. “Nuff said!”
