Dec. 22, 2005 My deepest apologies to Emma, Lanre and Funky Mallam – these individuals represent in thier entities the entirety of the geopolitical mass of peoples under which Nigeria is singularly known – the Ibos, the Yorubas and the Hausas or the Hausas the Ibos, the Yorubas – well probably in no mean order too, these three main groups – at least some elements, constitute in a larger part and great way... share everything that is wrong with Nigeria. Please do not get sentimental or emotional about this assertion but it is a widely accepted fact and largely held by even most of the three mentioned groups that they constitute a problem to the corporate entity this mass geomorphology called Nigeria. One of this most annoying examples of this condition I find is the agglutination, the agglomeration, even by the most respected of foreign media organizations, of Nigeria in terms of three, just three major ethnic – tribal or prominent groupings, a country with no less than 100 different groups scoped in three just three cubicles. During my youth service stint['national time'], and yes I have tell the world I actually obtained a university degree – two to be exact. Some one raised the issue once calling it self-aggrandizement, well why should'nt I blow my trumpet? Many people in Aso Rock, National Assembly and House of Reps[in Nigeria] never did so why should'nt I? Any way that, is not the issue at hand. People the world over are demanding and making a case for their own identity as against liberal reductionism … as I was saying before being side tracked it was a struggle tying to explain to some die hard westerners[ yorubas and igbos] that I was not a northerner and that Abacha was not my brother (that was 1998 and the man just went....left the building) that despite that fact that I did not speak Yoruba or Ibo and had no particular penchant for bean pottage and 'ponmo'[cooked cowhide] or Eba and vegetable soup. That I was not Aboki – a Northerner. I was – am a Middlebelter and proud of it! Gideon Orkar’s panacea for 'Pax Nigeriana' may have been too radical but 'misery needs no company' they say, but may be the disparate natives walking around with one buttock showing from behind the monkey skin, then the other buttock … probably the lot of the primitive indigenous man was much better thank you before brother white man from England came and messed status quo up and since then the plague of that limp minded idea to create a nation has been hounding us the so-called minorities. As far as most die hards are concerned both within and without they would classify Nigeria in terms of species yes o! Homo Igbocus, Home Arewacus and Homo Yorubacus – as long as a silent ‘minority’ remains silent. It's as if the right to exist doesn’t hold for the so called minorities in almost every sphere in national life which the Hausa, the Igbo, the Yoruba have cornered in the literal sense of the word, because most of the time to get anywhere to get anything/done one has to attempt under or within a quota never mind qualification or merit and meanwhile the nation stagnates, this is not, a tirade against fellow Nigerians. It cannot be. I believe am too enlightened to go down that road but just wait and read the responses this piece is going to garner.
