Driving Is Liberating

By Judy Ramsook
Dec. 19, 2005

Remember the first time you became accustomed to riding your tricycle or bicycle? Do you recall how liberating it felt. It was just you, the open space before you and the wind in your hair, followed by maybe a silent or vocal wheeeeeeee..

Although driving a vehicle comes with much more responsibility, it is still and will always be liberating. It’s you, your car, the open road, and maybe the reliable navigator system with which that late model car is equipped.

Reeking of independence, you no longer have to rely on public transportation, especially if walking to the bus stop and waiting on the bus both seem like an eternity or almost the same amount of time it would take for you to reach the halfway point of your destination had you driven yourself there by car, and if the weather conditions are a bit unsuitable, that could add to your discomfort as well.

You know, you have to wear layers of clothing just so you can withstand that cold blast, and while you are standing there waiting on the vehicle to arrive, you feel your ears become stiff and even your glove encased fingers don’t seem to be receiving much relief as you continue to stand there, coping with the elements. As you recall such things, there is one more thing you remember too.

You don’t have to rely on also asking some one to take you somewhere, something which can become tiresome for both you and the person you are asking for a lift. Sometimes the person you were asking for such a lift was probably tired after a hard day, or maybe he or she just made you feel uncomfortale by saying such things as, there is hardly any gas in the car, even if you offered to pay for fuel.

Now you don’t have to bother about such things, for now you can take yourself wherever you wish to go without having to tolerate any of the above mentioned discomforts. Enjoy yourself out there on the road this holiday season, stay alert and Merry Christmas!
