Dec. 15, 2005 The radio has always been something constant in my life. When I was growing up, I listened to the weekly top ten or top forty with great interest, and just like we tend to become accustomed to certain things in life, so did I become used to those radio commercials. Even today if I have the time I still listen to some of the weekly countdown. It’s easy, all I have to do is turn on the tuner or radio and there it is. And it’s free. But with the birth of higher technology, now those who want to listen to commercial free radio have Satellite Radio. For a fee. First one has to purchase the equipment and sign up for a subscription to such a service. Now after having listened to free radio, commercials included, I am not so sure if I can get used to the wonderful convenience of listening to commercial free broadcasts and music. That could be because when you have grown so accustomed to those commercial breaks in between broadcasts or groups of songs, after a while you kind of anticipate the breaks so you can switch to other stations to see what they are playing or even if you are looking for a song you have not heard in a while. But I guess, ultimately, it would depend on what one wants to listen to. If a listener wants to listen to commercial free music, sports, Howard Stern, Eminem or even Bob Dylan for a fee, that’s fine. It’ll probably be like having cable television, you know, even if you don’t have the time to watch all those channels or listen to all those satellite radio stations, you will still have to pay a monthly fee for the service. But there may be some of us who might not have the time or want to listen to such broadcasts. For some of us might still want to keep on listening to the free radio, commercials included. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
