Dec. 12, 2005 Marriage is a serious commitment between the two people involved in it, and on the day of the wedding their friends and relatives who are invited to the joyous occasion attend to show their support. And quite a few marriages have managed to withstand whatever problems came their way, but if things are not working out as well as one had hoped, the mentioning of just one word can leave one or both individuals involved in the marriage emotionally and materially devastated. That word, divorce. For there are certain things involved such as community property if one lives in that type of community, alimony, and child support if the couple happened to have any children. Not to mention attorney’s fees, court appearances, and tense moments when debating who should get what. Although many individuals who are busy being happily in love have not bothered with a little document known as a Prenuptial Agreement, if you happen to have a few million dollars in your bank account and some pieces of property in your name prior to the marriage, don’t be afraid to mention it or ask your future spouse to sign one before taking those vows. Sometimes some persons get caught so up in all the euphoria of being in love that they might think the object of his or her affection will not do anything of a ‘gold digger’ nature to hurt them. And even though it is difficult to think your romantic partner will want some of your material possessions if things ever came to a matter such as divorce, keep an open mind. Protect yourself and your possessions. Don’t be afraid to ask him or her to sign that prenuptial agreement before taking those important vows. For when the road of love becomes rocky, a side of your loved one could show itself, a side you have never seen before when things were going well and you were happily in love. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
