Dec. 5, 2005 If some one puts off doing something for another day and that day comes when he has the free time needed to accomplish that task, but the chore is still left unfinished, was it laziness at work here? And is procrastination a better way to achieve laziness? Sometimes we hear people say they are procrastinators or might refer to some one who is jus that, followed by a chuckle or two as they are being polite and courteous to the person doing the procrastinating. But when the procrastinator has the time to do what needs to be done, but refuses to move a muscle in that direction is when something else about that individual is observed, that beneath all those protests about procrastinating, what he might truly be, is just lazy. Too uninspired and lackadaisical to perform something that he might think is not important, but if there comes a day when that same person wants something done by another and thinks he is taking too long a time with the task is when he might see portions of himself at work. The procrastination/laziness portions. And then there are some individuals who might not make that observation. It depends on who you are and how well you know yourself to be able to pick out such a trait in another that has already been dwelling in you all this time. But whether this trait goes unoberved or not, what does it say about the person who possesses such a quality. It says volumes. Like maybe he is not willing to do anymore than he has to in order to make it through the day or week, and when that is happening it is also having an effect on his personal accomplishments as well. Like maybe he does not care about whether he accomplishes something he started doing maybe a week or even a year ago, something that can annoy some one else who does manage to get things done, no matter how long it takes or how simple the task. If some one is really too physically exhausted to complete a task he is willing to complete another day, that is fine, but too much procrastination can leave the one who is doing the procrastinating feeling slightly unaccomplished which can ultimately make him wonder why. And as he is wondering why, he might yet procrastinate something else. At least when one has accomplished something, he can stand back and take a look at what his time and energy have managed him to acquire, as opposed to having nothing to show by procrastinating. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
